Perioscopy Case #1: Perioscopy by Suzanne Newkirk, RDH
This patient had not been to the dentist for a number of years and was experiencing sensitivity throughout her mouth in her teeth and gums. At her initial exam she told Dr. Gottlieb that at some point in time she hoped she would be able to straighten her teeth.
She presented with heavy calculus deposits and generalized bleeding.
Dr. Gottlieb recommended FM Perioscopy, a non-invasive, non-surgical treatment used in the treatment of moderate to advanced periodontal disease. Her therapy was completed in two 2 hour sessions with local anesthetic and micro ultrasonics.
No hand instruments are necessary during Perioscopy, so there is no scraping of the roots with metal instruments which may contribute to root sensitivity. Perioscopy is completed with no down time to the patient, no altering of diet and little to no discomfort.
9 Months later: Nine months Post Perioscopy Treatment, all of the tissue is light pink, tight, firm and healthy. Perio charting shows all pockets to be 1-3mm, with no bleeding on probing. This patient is thrilled with her outcome and is now healthy and stable. She has decided to move forward with braces to straighten her teeth.
